When you have problems sleeping the quest for anything that will make you sleep can become all consuming .

The curious thing is, that simply the fact of having sleeping problems can
cause you to sleep even worse , making it even more difficult finding that elusive cure for insomnia.

When you worry about not being able to sleep – your worry makes you anxious and simply cannot relax .

Instead of relaxing towards the evening you start worrying about your insomnia, you just know how you are going to lie awake once you go to bed ….

You already know that when you get up tomorrow morning you’ll be shattered ….

You think about how many hours sleep you have lost the last few nights ….

Does this sound familiar?

If so , then relax. You are not alone!

Actually , sleep experts say that one of the first casualties of sleeping problemsis your ability to relax. And if you can’t relax it makes it much more difficult to prepare your body  for sleep. Most of us – well just about all of us ! – can’t  go to sleep as if flicking a switch .  Yes, of course there are people that find it  really easy to fall asleep,  not likethose that toss  and turn for hours before finally dropping off .

Natural sleepers   have the ability to unwind themselves in  the evening, to empty their minds and slow down their bodies,  calming   their thoughts and relaxing their muscles.

But most of us can’t, we have to practice relaxation.

The good news is, that this is not difficult to learn.

It’s not rocket science , and it can be put into effect straight away.

Here are two really simple tips that might be all you need , in effect these tips comprise a basic cure for insomnia:

+     Avoid coffee or alcohol for about 2-4 hours before bedtime and create  a pattern of “winding down” in the evening, planning the next day. When you finally get into bed you won’t then lie there thinking about tomorrow , worrying about  bills or shopping or what else to do – you’ve already done all that!

+    Stick to regular bedtime hours, going to bed and getting up at the same time. Contrary to myth you can’t save sleep, but you can catch up on missing sleep . So even if you feel wiped out in the morning, do get up , no naps during the day and chances are you will fall asleep quicker the next night.

This obviously is a pattern that will help you if you suffer from mild insomnia – if you have a severe difficulty with sleeping then you will need a more sophisticated cure for insomnia!
