In vitro fertilization or what is also known as IVF involves the fertilization of a human egg cell in a laboratory and the implantation of the embryo or the fertilized egg inside the uterus or the womb of a woman for a regular pregnancy and birth. Every now and then, an embryo which is a result of an in vitro fertilization will be frozen so as to be used for later IVF implantation.

In-vitro fertilization is that procedure followed by women who suffer from infertility problems. The said procedure is a great aid for conception and is considered a normal period of pregnancy. The procedure can also be applied for preventing transmission of hereditary diseases.Fertilization doesn’t happen in a test tube but in a small container that is often called a perti dish.

Test tube baby is the more common name for the baby that resulted from an in-vitro fertilization. There are some procedures you can follow to produce a test tube baby. The first would be the collecting the eggs from the woman. But before they are to be collected, the woman has to take special medicines to stimulate her ovulation. When the eggs are now ripe, the surgeon performs an operation to extract them.

The next part in IVF implantation involves that of egg fertilization and development in the laboratory. After the egg’s removal, they are taken to the laboratory, where they are placed in a special fluid for 6 hours. Then the male partner or a sperm donor provides a sperm specimen. This should take place at least 4 hours after the eggs have been collected. The sperm must have special washing and incubation. They are then placed together with the eggs and left for about eighteen hours. To follow the procedure, the eggs are reexamined to check if it has fertilized. They are then returned to culture for another twenty four hours.

Following the fertilization procedure, the grown fertilized egg will be moved into the woman’s uterus. To minimize the risk of having multiple pregnancies, only a few eggs are given back to the woman.
