Menopause Symptoms You Have to Understand
Menopause can present women experiencing symptoms with some challenges because they often mimic other conditions. Losing one’s fertility is not the only thing a woman will experience during menopause. Many people think there are only handful of symptoms that are truely related to “the change”. There are a wide array of symptoms related to menopause. Some signs are very subtle and barely noticeable. There are a few that cannot be mistaken. As a woman you should learn to recognize the most common signs of menopause. Being able to offer the other women in your life guidance during their time of “change” by knowing the signs of early menopause will be appreciated more than you can imagine.
Perhaps one of the most “popular” and well recognized menopause symptoms is the “hot flash.” The hot flash is the feeling of suddenly being way too hot. It causes the face to flush and the body to sweat. It is kind of like somebody temporarily turning up the temperature of your body way too high. If you have ever gone from a cold pool to a jacuzzi, the feeling is a little like that but more intense. You can have a hot flash at pretty much any time of the day (or during the night). A hot flash that happens during the nighttime is usually called a “night sweat.” One of the hardest menopause symptoms to find is the irregular heartbeat. This is when your heart will suddenly beat faster or slower without your having to do anything to prompt the change. A woman who is sitting still might feel a short race in her heart which quickly slows back down. You might not ever notice that you have this symptom. It is not rare to only have this condition discovered during a routine check for something else. A doctor checks the woman’s heart during a routine exam and notices that it is not acting as it should. Depending on your age, this could be a menopause symptom.
An increased itching sensation is one of the menopause symptoms that is often overlooked. Some women who are dealing with the change of life say that their skin constantly itches and crawls. This is not the same as the sensation you feel with dry skin.
The best description is “it’s like ants are crawling through my skin.” This can feel very icky for women who don’t know what it is that they are experiencing. If you feel itchier than usual and constantly want to scratch, call your doctor. You might have developed a simple skin condition. This could be a symptom of your impending (or actual) menopause. Menopause is not any fun for women. It is important that the people who live with woman of a certain age try to understand that while they are going through menopause, the women have very little control over what is happening to them and that they are not enjoying the changes they are going through. In spite of being glad that they won’t have to have a monthly cycle anymore, many women have a hard time accepting menopause. Being able to recognize menopausal symptoms will help you be more prepared to help the women you know get through their “change of life.”
